Owens is accused of punching a high school student in the head. DeKalb County School District police arrested her and charged her with simple assault and criminal trespassing Friday.
Court documents allege that it happened Thursday outside the gym at McNair High School after one of her teen family members called, saying he needed help fighting another student.
The documents say Owens and her adult daughter showed up to the school on Bouldercrest Road ready to fight.
Channel 2's Michael Seiden searched public databases online and discovered several home addresses for Owens and her daughter, whom we aren't naming because she hasn't been charged with a crime.
Seiden stopped by the addresses, hoping to get their side of the story, but no one was home.
Seiden contacted the school district for comment, and school officials sent out the following statement:
"DCSD police reacted swiftly and the DCSD teacher was arrested. While the investigation remains active and ongoing, the employee has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an investigation.
"All reports of employee misconduct are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly to ensure student and staff safety."
Right now, we're still working to find out how many students were assaulted. Multiple parents have told Channel 2 Action News that there is video of the incident.
We couldn't find it on social media, but we have filed an open records request to see if school security cameras captured it.
Owens is being held without bond.
