A Cincinnati animal rescue is asking for help after getting a dog that was left for dead in Kentucky.

On April 26, a small shelter in Sparta, Kentucky, posted on Facebook that a medium sized, tan brown dog was left on the side of a road with a bag of dog food and toys when he was hit by a car.

Gallatin County Animal Shelter said in a Facebook post that the dog was taken into its care, given pain medicine to make him comfortable, and was later taken into surgery, where he underwent an operation on his two broken femurs.

WXIX reported that HART Animal Rescue in Cincinnati, which operates only with volunteers, took in the dog through one of its volunteer fosters. It was determined that the dog, whose fosters named him Nike, needed to have his surgery redone on one of his legs.

The surgery took 2 1/2 hours to correct some of the previous work, according to WXIX.

The rescue said it has received an offer from a company in neighboring Kentucky that will offer free water therapy once Nike is cleared from surgery.

Those interested in helping Nike can donate to HART Cincinnati at rescueahart.org.
