The coaster will be 3,000 feet long and will have trains of 12 passengers, one in each in-line style row on the monorail track. When it launches, it will be the world's tallest, fastest and longest single rail coaster. Speeds reach 58 mph.
"Six Flags Great Adventure is home to the best and most innovative roller coasters on the planet, and we are thrilled to expand our unrivaled collection with the Jersey Devil Coaster," John Winkler, president of Six Flags Great Adventure, said in a statement. "Jersey Devil folklore has been a source of fear and intrigue here in the Pine Barrens for more than 200 years, and this iconic piece of New Jersey history inspired the design for this monstrous scream machine."
That folklore, according to NJ.com, began in the 1700s in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, when a woman cursed her 13th child as the devil. According to the most popular version of the folk legend, the child grew wings, horns, hooves and a tail, thus becoming the Jersey Devil. Sightings of the creature have been reported ever since.
The Jersey Devil Coaster will have a 48-inch height requirement. It opens summer 2020.
