Utility crews in a Kentucky county, however, quickly found the cause Thursday -- a 4-foot snake was tangled in a transformer perched 40 feet above the ground, WLKY reported.
Members of the Meade County Rural Electric Cooperative went to the home in Bradenburg and found the snake's tail hanging out of a hole near the transformer, the television station reported.
According to its Facebook page, the utility company said it was "a rough way to start the day." The power outage only affected one home, and power was restored within 30 minutes, WLKY reported.
Company spokesman Todd Blackburn told the television station that crews were not sure what kind of snake they saw, but believed it was not venomous. Crew members said they also found a nest on the pole and speculated the reptile was looking for a meal.
"His last meal," Blackburn told WLKY.
