Police in Tennessee arrested a man in a wheelchair Saturday outside a store in Memphis' Frayser neighborhood.

The incident happened in the 2300 block of Frayser Boulevard.

Memphis police officers said they observed Charles Johnson, 42, sitting in his wheelchair in front of the store's "No Loitering" sign.

Police said Johnson had been advised several times he was not allowed on the property per multiple employees’ requests.

Johnson reportedly wheeled himself into the store after officers pulled into the parking lot.

An officer wheeled Johnson back out of the store.

Officers reported they could smell a strong odor of marijuana on Johnson and noticed a plastic bag in his waistband.

When officers attempted to place Johnson’s hands behind his head in order to retrieve the bag, Johnson began swinging at the officers.

Johnson reportedly spat on one of the officers after he was placed in handcuffs.

The officer punched Johnson with a closed fist, according to police.

After Johnson was detained, officers discovered 16 smaller baggies of marijuana inside the larger bag.

Officers reported they found $585 in Johnson’s left front pocket.

Johnson was transported to Regional One before being taken to 201 Poplar.

He was charged with criminal trespass, assault, disorderly conduct, manufacturing/selling marijuana and resisting official detention.
