A Texas deputy was suspended for five days after she allowed an inmate to unlock a jail unit door with keys, authorities said.

According to a suspension order, Detention Deputy Synnamon Carabajal was disciplined by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office for the July 2019 incident, KSAT reported. She served that suspension in December, the television station reported.

According to the suspension order, jail officials said a deputy was waiting to be admitted into a jail unit while Carabajal was speaking on the telephone at the officer's station, KSAT reported. When an inmate offered to open the door, Carabajal put the keys in front of the inmate, the television station reported. A deputy witnessed the incident, as the inmate unlocked the door.

Carabajal admitted she put the keys within reach of the inmate.

Carabajal originally was suspended for 15 days, but the disciplinary action was reduced to five days, KSAT reported.
