Nueces County District Court judges opened Monday's sessions in pink robes, KRIS-TV reported.

Judges handed out stickers with pink ribbons to jurors reporting for jury duty, encouraging them to schedule annual checkups and mammograms, the television station reported.

The fashion statement was created in 2009 by state District Judge Missy Medary when she was a municipal court judge, according to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. Medary continued the practice at the Nueces County Courthouse the following year, the newspaper reported.

"I think women are so busy taking care of kids and working full time, I think sometimes everybody else comes first," Medary told the Caller-Times in 2015. "So, I think this is a great way to remind them to take care of themselves. We've been handing out stickers to men as well to remind them breast cancer affects men as well, but to also remind the men to take care of the mom that they adore, the wife they adore and the sister that they adore."
