According to KVUE-TV, 21-year-old Samuel Hemmit faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the incident, which took place about 5:30 p.m. Sunday at an Austin Taco Bell restaurant.
The customer told police that when he was trying to order through the speaker, Hemmit asked multiple times what he wanted, KXAN-TV reported.
“Can you not hear?” the customer asked, according to police.
The customer told officers that the question angered Hemmit, who started swearing and asked, “Why don’t you pull up, and I will show you what I have for you?”
When the customer approached the drive-thru window, Hemmit revealed a machete, which he swung at the man two times, authorities said. Hemmit also struck the side mirror of the customer’s vehicle, according to police.
The customer fled and reported the incident to police, who reviewed surveillance footage from the scene, KXAN reported. Before the attack, cameras captured Hemmit grabbing the weapon from the restaurant break room, authorities said. Afterward, he hid the machete by dumpsters outside the restaurant, according to investigators.
