Golfer Tiger Woods and singer/actor Justin Timberlake have joined forces to create the ONE Bahamas Fund, a nonprofit organization aimed at rebuilding the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian.

Woods and Timberlake, along with NEXUS Luxury Collection, Royal Bank of Canada and members from the Albany community, have pledged $6 million toward the cause, according to onebahamasfund.org. The organization is matching donations, and is aiming to raise $12 million.

"We know people everywhere want to help, and we hope through the ONE Bahamas Fund we’re enabling the broadest group of people to get involved and support the recovery and rebuilding efforts necessary to get nearly 70,000 people back on their feet," Timberlake is quoted saying on the website.

In a series of tweets Thursday, Woods announced the creation of the ONE Bahamas Fund, urged his followers to donate and to encourage friends to do the same.

"Together as one, we can make a difference," Woods wrote.

Hurricane Dorian was at Category 5 status when it tore through the Bahamas nearly two weeks ago, making it the strongest storm to make landfall there, CNN reported. At least 50 people in the Bahamas were killed in the storm, while another 1,300 remain missing.

"We are a nation in mourning," Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said in a statement. "The grief is unbearable following the devastating impact of Hurricane Dorian, which has left behind death, destruction and despair on Grand Bahama and Abaco, our second and third most populous islands."
