The crash happened shortly after 11 a.m. Monday when a semitruck slammed into a tow truck parked on the side of Interstate 43 in Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported, citing a statement from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. The tow truck had been responding to a crash that happened earlier.
The semitruck crash was caught on video by the dashcam of a sheriff's deputy who responded to the earlier crash.
The force of the crash caused the trailer to separate from the cab, the sheriff's office said. The trailer flipped over and blocked all three lanes of traffic.
The tow truck was slammed up against a wall. Firefighters had to cut the driver from the wreckage. The driver was taken to a hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the semitruck and his passenger were able to climb out of the cab, and were taken to a hospital with cuts on their heads and arms.
Hazardous material crews responded to the scene to clean up the road, the Journal Sentinel reported. The truck was hauling 6,000 pounds of light fixtures, according to WISN-TV.
The driver of the semitruck, Ali Z. Abubakar, was issued citations for driving too fast for conditions and failure to keep a vehicle under control. He holds a valid commercial driver's license from Ohio.
All lanes of the highway were reopened by 3:40 p.m.
