Washington teen pleads guilty to rape of 5-year-old girl, sentenced to 4 years in juvenile prison

A teen from Washington state has received a four-year sentence after he pleaded guilty to the rape of a child.

According to KEPR-TV, the 17-year-old defendant, who isn't being named because he is a minor, was 16 when he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old girl last May in her Kennewick apartment. The child's mother said she came home to find the boy assaulting the girl and notified police.

Although prosecutors initially charged the teen as an adult, he later pleaded guilty as a minor to first-degree child rape, the news station reported.

The teen will serve his time in a juvenile prison and later be listed in the sex offender registry, officials said.
