Carlos Lago, who lives at the home in southwest Miami-Dade County, said his family would normally be spending time at the pool, but rainy weather forced them inside.
Lago said his 11-year-old daughter, Sabrina, and 2-year-old son often use the patio.
"I just love playing outside," Sabrina told WSVN.
In the aftermath of the crash, the fenced-in pool area was littered with pieces of metal, car parts and stone that was chipped when the SUV barreled through the area.
Following the crash, the pool area could be seen littered with bits of fence, car parts and pieces of stone chipped off from the out-of-control SUV. The woman who was driving was said to have had a medical emergency when the crash occurred.
"I saw it right after it happened," neighbor Victor Hernandez told WSVN. "We were coming, and we see the whole (thing) and people running out. I was like, 'Did the car just go through that gate?'"
The woman driving the SUV was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the television station reported.
