Workers with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources came to the rescue over the weekend when they saved a pair of baby black bears who had been abandoned by their mother.

The cubs were found crying in their den on land managed by the department, authorities said in a Facebook post. Officials said they waited several hours to see if the cubs' mother would return, but when she didn't, it became clear they had been abandoned.
