According to KSL-TV and CNN, 6-year-old Aria Hill was at the Links at Sleepy Ridge golf course Monday morning with her father, whose ball accidentally struck her after he teed off, authorities said.
"He must have mishit the ball, and the ball struck her in the head at the base of the skull," Orem police Lt. Trent Colledge told KUTV, adding that the child was inside a golf cart at the time.
First responders arrived about 10:30 a.m. and took her to a nearby hospital, KSL reported. Later, a helicopter flew her to Salt Lake City's Primary Children's Hospital, officials said.
Aria died Monday night, according to KSL.
Colledge said police believe the death was accidental and don't plan to file charges, CNN reported.
The family has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Aria's funeral. Learn more here.
