A Dayton woman charged with stealing a Jeep that prompted a deadly Moraine police chase Sept. 11 does not have a valid driver’s license and told authorities that night she had illegal drugs in her system, according to state records.

Investigation into Alyssa Irwin-Debraux “revealed that she does not have a valid license to drive a motor vehicle” and she “admitted that meth, cocaine and marijuana would be found in her system,” according to Ohio State Highway Patrol records this news organization obtained today.

Irwin-Debraux, 18, has been indicted on grand theft for events that led to the fatal collision on Ohio 741 in Miami Twp. involving Moraine Officer Matt Barrie and Lebanon resident Mary Taulbee, a driver uninvolved in the chase who later was pronounced dead at Kettering Hospital.

Irwin-Debraux was captured minutes after the deadly crash when she flipped the Jeep as she sought to escape near the Dayton Mall, according to the highway patrol’s report on the fatal wreck.

Moraine police later requested a urine sample and the suspect agreed, the state report indicates. Moraine police also obtained a search warrant to draw Irwin-Debraux’s blood.

The results of both of those tests are pending, according to the highway patrol’s report.

Irwin-Debraux said she lost her driver’s license and applied for replacement on Jan. 25, state records show. She again applied for replacements on April 11 and May 2, reporting the license as lost and stolen, respectively, in those cases, according to the highway patrol.
