Enthusiasm for the St. Louis Blues possibly winning their first Stanley Cup left the NHL team’s hometown newspaper red-faced Sunday morning.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s digital edition contained a letter of congratulations from Blues owner Tom Stillman, thanking fans after “the elation of breaking through and bringing St. Louis its first-ever Stanley Cup.”
The problem? Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final was scheduled for Sunday night, and while the Blues led the series 3-2, the game had not been played yet.
To make matters even more embarrassing for the Post-Dispatch, the Boston Bruins beat St. Louis 5-1 Sunday night to force Game 7, which will be played Wednesday night in Boston.

The digital edition also included an advertisement from Enterprise, the car rental company based out of St. Louis and the title sponsor for the Blues' arena, according to USA Today. The ad published a "2019 Stanley Cup champions" logo that included a Blues logo, while the ad copy congratulated the team for winning the Cup.
Stillman’s comments were effusive and were certainly meant to be published if the Blues won Lord Stanley’s Cup.
"Winning the Stanley Cup was a dream come true for so many of you,” Stillman wrote. “All of us will remember where we were, what we did and how we felt when the Blues brought the Cup home.”
Later in the letter, Stillman made a reference to parading the Cup “down Market Street” in downtown St. Louis.
In a tweet Sunday afternoon, the newspaper said “In preparation for the outcome of the Stanley Cup Final, some of our readers got a sneak peak (sic) at what our advertisers are hoping to say to the Blues, the fans and St. Louis. We apologize for the sneak peak (sic) -- and hope to share their messages with everyone very soon!”
