Common Core standards for most of the nation’s states are supposed to start in the next couple of years, but trouble is brewing — from both the political left and right. The most recent criticism has come from tea parties around the nation and, as you’ll read, Ohio Sen. Peggy Lehner, R-Kettering, blames conservative talk-show host Glenn Beck for raising what she considers unfounded fears and misinformation about the new curriculum. But many educators also have concerns about how it will affect their jobs.
We think you’ll find today’s conversation — edited for length — to be as informative as we did. We had many more volunteers than we were able to accommodate for this session, so — depending on your interest and feedback — we may assemble another roundtable to continue this important discussion about how well we’re preparing our children for their adult careers, and how well we’re helping them become well-rounded, contributing members of their communities.
Let’s keep the conversation going. Let us know what you think about today’s discussion and whether you would like to read more like this. (And if you’d like to participate in a future roundtable, let us know that, too.) Please send email to me at mwilliams@coxohio.com.
