A 71-year-old woman was found dead early Tuesday morning in a Fairborn apartment after a fire in the unit.

The Fairborn Fire Department responded at 1:45 a.m. to a medic call at 701 W. Xenia Drive. But when they arrived, crews found an apartment “heavily involved in fire,” according to a release from the city of Fairborn.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire, and found the apartment’s lone occupant deceased. She was identified as Arlene Dunaway. Her cause of death is still under investigation by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Firefighters from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Riverside and Huber Heights also responded.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and is under investigation by the state fire marshal.
