Plea of not guilty entered in child rape case

A 48-year-old man facing child rape charges did not speak during his arraignment Tuesday in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

A plea of not guilty was entered on behalf of Derek Black, who stood mute when asked how he wanted to plea. He faces two counts of rape and charges of sexual battery and sexual imposition, according to court records.

Dayton police said the victim is now 16 years old who was abused by the suspect when she was 10 and again when she was 13. Police said the investigation continues as another man may have also sexually abused the young woman.

Bond for Black was set at $250,000. He remains in the Montgomery County Jail. His next court date is in December.
