“The preliminary indications are the suspect and victim were acquaintances,” said Lt. Jason Hall. “The events leading up to and motive for this tragic event are still under investigation.”
Police responded to a shooting in the 400 block of Noel Court just after 5 a.m. Friday.
“Upon their arrival they discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds,” Hall said. “The victim was provided emergency aid by the responding officers as well as paramedics, but unfortunately did not survive his injuries.”
Officers secured the scene and identified a possible suspect and his location.
Police secured the second scene on Hulbert Street, where the suspect refused to exit a home.
“A suspect was identified and an address was learned a few blocks away,” said Sgt. Eric Brown.. “He was determined to be in that address on Hulbert [Street].”
SWAT and hostage negotiation teams responded. After an hour or two, the suspect came out willingly and was taken into custody without incident, Brown said.
Police planned to speak to at least two witnesses, as well as the suspect.
During the standoff, a dog escaped from the home on Hulbert Street. Crews from the Animal Resource Center responded to find the dog.
