A man who was shot while with a child in Trotwood on Monday morning was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

A woman called police around 10 a.m. and said that a man was screaming to call 911 on Blairfield Place.

“He’s got a little boy with him,” she said. “It’s a kid with him.”

The boy could be heard crying in the background as she went to check on the man, who was shot in the hand and stomach.

Another 911 caller said she heard gunfire and looked out the window and saw a little boy crying.

Initial reports indicated that a juvenile was shot, but upon arrival, police determined that the victim was an adult and that the child was not injured.

Neither 911 callers were able to determine if the suspect or suspects fled on foot or drove away.

Police later said the shooting was not random, and that it happened outside during an altercation at Hallworth Place near Kildare Place.

Investigators called K-9 units to the scene and were also seen with metal detectors.

Police said the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.
