Post Office Cancels Late-Night Dropoffs

Ohio's really late tax filers may get an unhappy surprise Wednesday night. Most post offices that used to stay open until midnight on April 15 will be closing earlier.

The U.S. Postal Service said budget cutbacks have wiped out the after-hours tradition because of budget cuts, but you can use an automated postal center until midnight. Mail deposited after 8:00 p.m. Wednesday will be post marked April 16.

In Dayton, the main post office will close at 8:00 p.m. The main Cincinnati post office is open until 9:00 p.m. The main post office in Columbus will be open until midnight, the only one in the state.

Some restaurants around the state and in the Miami Valley are holding promotions to observe Tax Day. Upscale eatery McCormick & Schmick's has an entree priced at $10.40 to denote IRS Form 1040. Customers also will get a certificate for a future $10.40 dinner.

In Greenville, Ponderosa is offering a free buffet when customers order a large drink for $2.49. The deal is available from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Papa John's pizza chain is offering a large, three-topping pizza for $10.40 to customers who enter "1040" as a promotional code on its Web site (www.papajohns.com).
