The incident occurred on the seventh hole at the Mohegan Sun Golf Course, Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications operations manager Travis Irons, told the television station.
"It jumped on his back, he was able to fight it off with a golf club. He thought it was dead as he walked a few steps away it ended up jumping back up and taking off on him," Sgt. Chris Dwyer of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection told WFSB.
On Thursday afternoon, the bobcat tested positive for rabies, the television station reported. The animal was euthanized.
The golfer suffered minor injuries but was taken to a hospital, WFSB reported.
"This is the first time I’ve ever even heard of this. It’s very unfortunate, unusual," Philip Krick, general manager of Mohegan Sun Golf Club, told the television station.
