Radiation specialist helped investigation at Three Mile Island

Walter Wallace, an expert in the field of radiation who helped respond to the famous 1979 accident at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station in Pennsylvania, has died. He was 83.

Wallace was raised in Portsmouth, where he was a gifted athlete, according to his obituary. His family moved to Springboro in 1962.

He was employed by Monsanto Mound, and he worked as a Health Physicist on multiple NASA missions.

Wallace was also known by neighborhood kids for his entertaining and welcoming nature, which made his family’s home a favorite location.
