An attendant at a North Texas store rolled back quickly away from a shopping cart Saturday night after finding a large rat snake that had worked its way into a cart, WFAA reported.

The attendant was collecting shopping carts in the parking lot of the Cross Roads store when he found the reptile, KTVT reported. According to the Northeast Police Department, an officer heard a "loud scream" and investigated. The officer found a shook up attendant and then saw the yellow and black snake lounging in the cart, the television station reported.

The police department posted photos of the snake to its Facebook page later Saturday.

Police used a local "snake charmer," John Heckaman, to retrieve the snake and relocate it, WFAA reported. Heckaman was "only bit once in the process," police wrote on Facebook. Rat snakes are non-venomous reptiles.

"Recent heavy rains are forcing a lot of snakes out of their natural habitats, and this goes to show, that they can turn up just about anywhere," the department wrote on Facebook.
