Ohio gun laws: 9 workplace shootings in the U.S. and Ohio

News accounts of workplace shootings by disgruntled employees are fodder for both gun rights advocates and gun control proponents to make their cases.

Ohio's newly expanded Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) law allows license-holders to bring their handguns onto company property beginning on March 21.

The law overturns gun-free workplace company policies and forbids companies from disciplining employees for having a handgun on company property, as long as the guns remain locked in the employee’s private vehicle.

Guns rights advocates say people have a right to carry guns to defend themselves, while opponents say easier access to guns makes workplace violence more likely.

Feb. 25, 2016: Three people died and 14 were injured in shootings at multiple sites in Hesston, Kan., including outside Excel Industries, where the shooter, Cedric Larry Ford, worked. He was killed by police.

Dec. 2, 2015: Fourteen people were killed and 22 were injured in a terrorist attack at a county health department training event and holiday party when co-worker, Syed Rizwan Farook, and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, opened fire at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, Calif.

Sept. 16, 2013: Aaron Alexis, a civilian contractor, shot 12 people to death and injured three others at the Washington Navy Yard before he was killed in a police shootout.

Nov. 5, 2009: Thirteen people were killed and more than 30 were wounded at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, when an Army psychologist Nidal Hasan, who was about to be deployed to Afghanistan, unleashed a barrage of gunfire.

Aug. 8, 2007: A retired state trooper was one of two men killed at Liberty Transportation in Perrysburg Twp., Ohio as they attempted to fire the trucking company's employee, Calvin Coolidge Neyland, Jr., who shot them them both.

Jan. 26, 2005: One man died when Toledo Jeep plant employee, Myles Meyers, gunned down his supervisor and wounded two other employees before taking his own life.

Nov. 6, 2003: Two were killed and three were wounded at the Watkins Motor Lines trucking company in West Chester Twp., when Tom West, a former employee of the company's Atlanta office, opened fire. Donald Haury of Greene County and Bob Lines of Springfield Township were killed.
