The number of domestic violence incidents rose from 10 to 21 between 2016 and 2017, and dating violence incidents also increased from 19 in 2016 to 44 in 2017, the report said. Incidents of stalking on campus increased from 48 in 2016 to 58 in 2017.

Ohio State officials downplayed some of the increased crime reports though, attributing them to a number of factors including improved knowledge of where to make a report as well as an increase in the number of students living on campus this year.
Burglaries reported on campus rose from 19 in 2016 to 49 in 2017, which the university attributes to the opening of new residence halls and suites in those buildings that house multiple rooms.
“Safety of students, faculty and staff remains our top priority,” Monica Moll, OSU director of Public Safety, said in a prepared statement. “We continue to hire additional police officers and invest in safety tools to provide proactive policing and security services to campus residents and for major events.”
The annual report — mandated under the federal Clery Act — lists student education and prevention programs that have grown at many schools in recent years. The report is not comprehensive, though, as it includes only crimes that allegedly occurred on campus, not in landlord-owned student housing.

Colleges are required to release the annual reports by Oct. 1, meaning they should be available from every area school by Monday.
The report also lists arrests and disciplinary referrals made by the school for drug and alcohol violations.
There were 127 students arrested for alcohol violations in 2017, up from 103 in 2016, according to the report. But, 1,844 students received disciplinary referrals for alcohol violations on campus.
OSU reported 41 students were arrested for drug law violations in 2017, up from 31 in 2016 and 313 students were disciplined for drug violations, up from 259 in 2016, according to the school.
