Robbery Attempt Leads To Fatal Shooting

Police said an outdoor gathering in Dayton ended in gunfire and left a man dead in what officers believe was an attempted robbery.

According to police, 28-year-old Raymond McDaniel was shot to death at a party after he refused to hand over his money.

The shooting happened late Monday night at the Western Manor Apartments on James H. McGee Boulevard.

The victim’s mother talked to News Center 7’s Jill Del Greco and she said the family is upset over the senseless loss of their loved one.

Emma McDaniel wants to know why someone would want to shoot and kill her son, Raymond.

She said, “Why rob my son and take his life when he ain’t bother nobody.”

Police said Raymond McDaniel was one of about 100 people who attended a party when a man approached him and demanded cash. Investigators said Raymond McDaniel refused and was killed.

Officers said the gunman fired shots into the crowd as he ran away.

Emma McDaniel said her son had five children.

According to police, Raymond McDaniel is not a stranger to violence. Last year, U.S. Marshal’s arrested him in connection with a 2006 shooting where he allegedly shot and paralyzed a man.

His trial was scheduled for September, but his mother said she does not think her son’s alleged past has anything to do with his ruined future.

Police said they are looking into the possibility of a connection, but they said Raymond McDaniel could have been a random victim of a random crime.

Family members said they have their hopes high that someone will lead officers to an arrest.

Police said if you have any information that could help solve this crime, call 333-COPS.
