Rules For Pets May Change In Bellbrook

In one part of the Miami Valley, pet owners who have more than two pets or want to have more than two move closer to being able to legally have those pets.

A Bellbrook ordinance on the books states that residents can only keep two dogs or two cats or one of each.

Monday night, the planning commission decided to revise that ordinance, which could mean no limits on the number of pets in a household.

One woman in Bellbrook had to give up a dog to obey the law, which was a heart-wrenching decision.

“He is a great dog. I didn’t want to give him up. But because I wanted to follow the rules, I did. Now I am down to having two pets and that was really hard on my family,” said Tina Morgan from Bellbrook.

The board voted 4 to 1 to revise the current ordinance to put no limit on the number of dogs and cats. It is not a final decision because there had to be another public hearing before the board votes on it again, and then a similar process before the Bellbrook City Council.
