Serious injuries suspected in 2-vehicle crash on South Smithville Road

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on South Smithville Road near U.S. 35 Friday, Jan. 8, 2021. STAFF/MARSHALL GORBY

Two people are injured, with one suffering suspected serious injuries, following a crash on South Smithville Road in Dayton Friday morning.

Around 7:24 a.m., a Chevrolet S-10 traveling north on South Smithville Road attempted to turn left at the U.S. 35 entrance ramp, according to a crash report.

The truck reportedly failed to yield the right of way and collided with a Saturn SC1 heading south.

A 36-year-old passenger in the Saturn was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with suspected serious injuries, according to the report. The driver, a 42-year-old woman, suffered possible minor injuries and was also transported to Miami Valley Hospital.

A 32-year-old man driving the truck was not injured.

The crash closed the U.S. 35 Friday morning, but it has since reopened.

The crash in under investigation by Dayton police.
