A school bus carrying a Missouri high school girls soccer team was involved in a head-on crash Friday night.

Several students and two adults were injured when a school bus transporting a girls soccer team home after a match was involved in a head-on collision Friday night in central Missouri, KRCG reported.

The Belle High School girls team was returning home from a district tournament in Westphalia when the crash occurred, Osage County Sheriff Mike Bonham told the television station.

According to Westphalia Fire Protection District Chief Jim Roark, seven to 10 students were on the bus and three or four were taken to an area hospital, KMIZ reported. Bonham told KRCG the driver of the bus and passenger vehicle were airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. Bonham also said another adult was taken to a hospital, the television station reported.

The Belle High School had just finished playing Dixon in the district tournament at Fatima High School in Westphalia, KRCG reported.

The road where the crash occurred was closed for several hours but is now open,the Osage County Sheriff's Office wrote on its Facebook page.
