Small fire forces evacuation at Xenia KinderCare

UPDATE @ 10:20 a.m.

The building was evacuated after a small fire occurred in the facility’s storage room, according to Xenia Fire Chief Kenneth Riggsby.

KinderCare will be closed today while the building is cleaned and ventilated.

Riggsby said employees used an extinguisher to put the fire out and everyone got out OK prior to crews arriving on scene.

Chemicals stored in the room may have reacted, but the exact cause is under investigation.

The dry chemical from the extinguisher traveled throug the building. Riggsby said extensive cleaning will be necessary before the business can reopen.
