Enhanced police patrols in Dayton Wednesday night were seeking out impaired drivers.

The city of Dayton announced that what was originally planned as a sobriety checkpoint was changed to “saturation patrols across the city.”

The patrols were to be concentrated during the 6 to 10 p.m. timeframe, according to a news release. A statewide curfew is from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

“This change will allow officers to focus traffic safety efforts on numerous locations,” the release stated.

Last year, there were 584 alcohol-related and 236 drug-related crashes in Montgomery County, according to the Montgomery County Combined Agency OVI Task Force. Thirteen of those crashes were deadly.

Anyone who plans to drink alcohol should always designate a sober driver.

In addition to the statewide curfew, Montgomery County is under a stay-at-home advisory, in effect through Dec. 17.
