Hall wins Ohio appeals court race

DAYTON — Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Michael T. Hall will join the Ohio 2nd District Court of Appeals next year.

With 83 percent of the vote tallied at press time, Hall was defeating Greene County Common Pleas Chief Magistrate George B. Reynolds in the Republican primary, 66 percent to 34 percent.

“It was a tough race between two well-qualified candidates,” Hall said Tuesday evening.

No Democrats have filed to run for the seat, so Hall will run unopposed in November for the seat being vacated by the retirement of longtime Judge James A. Brogan.

The court hears appeals from various courts — including general, probate, juvenile and domestic relations divisions of the Common Pleas courts — in six counties: Montgomery, Greene, Darke, Miami, Clark and Champaign.

Hall, 61, is a former Dayton police officer who graduated from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1979. In August 1999, Gov. Bob Taft appointed Hall to the Common Pleas court.
