The finance reports, filed Wednesday, do not include expenditures so it’s impossible to determine how much money is flowing out of the campaigns and what their cash balances are.
The September reports show that Cordray had nearly 16,000 contributions, averaging $139; DeWine had 1,766 contributions, averaging $1,154.
DeWine’s $2.12 million total includes a $315,719 cash infusion from the Ohio GOP on Oct. 2. Cordray’s numbers reflect a fundraiser held Sept. 13 in Cleveland with President Barack Obama.
Earlier in the campaign, DeWine issued a $1 million personal loan to his campaign but has not said whether he intends to forgive the loan or require that it be paid back. In 2010 when he first ran for attorney general, he loaned his campaign $2 million, all of which was eventually paid back to DeWine.
“If you’re going to put money in, put money in. Don’t go to donors and get it back and stick it in your pocket,” Cordray said, maintaining that such loans raise ethics questions.
The DeWine campaign had no comment on the loan at this time.
