Police reopen Columbus highway after SWAT standoff ends

One person was taken into custody following a SWAT standoff in Columbus Tuesday that shut down two major roadways.

Police responded to the area of state Route 315 and I-270 around noon to help state troopers with a traffic stop where officers believed a man inside the car had a gun, our news partners at WBNS-TV in Columbus report.

Around 1:30 p.m. two armored SWAT vehicles surrounded the car and officers were able to take one person into custody, the station reports.

During the investigation, police recovered a BB rifle and a knife from inside the car, WBNS-TV reports.

The man taken into custody, who was not identified, was transported to a Columbus-area hospital for evaluation.

The incident initially shut down both directions of I-270 and SR 315, however all roads reopened before 3 p.m.
