Court records filed Thursday show the state wants a “particularly harsh sentence” for the 32-year-old Centerville woman because of the crime’s “egregious nature” and to deter future similar crimes.
“There exists a very strong need to punish the offender to deter both her and others from future crime,” the prosecution’s motion states. “In particular, punishing the defendant with incarceration would significantly deter other persons in positions similar to the defendant from committing sex crimes, especially against minors,” the motion by Assistant Prosecutor Michele Henne states.

Last week Langford’s attorney filed documents seeking a minimum sentence. Defense attorney Lawrence Greger asked for community control and electronic monitoring.
The April 13 verdict by a jury of eight men and four women found Langford guilty of having sex with an eighth-grader in her classroom on May 23, 2017.
