He was charged with two counts of felonious assault and pleaded guilty to a single count of felonious assault with a deadly weapon, according to court records.
The plea document says Heizer could face from 2 to 8 years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 2.
Heizer, a 2016 Fairmont High graduate, was arrested after the fatal Labor Day shooting of Bowers, a Fairmont student. Jail records showed an initial charge of felonious assault, but Kettering Police released Heizer the next day “pending further investigation.”
Montgomery County Prosecutors Office spokesman Greg Flannagan said Tuesday that no charges have been filed against Heizer in connection with the Bowers case, but both Flannagan and Kettering police emphasized that it remains an open investigation.
The three juveniles who were in the car with Heizer on Sept. 5 have all been in court – two pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence, assault and menacing, and have been sentenced to at least six months in juvenile detention.
Court officials are still working to determine whether the third juvenile, alleged shooter Kylen Jamal Gregory, will be tried in juvenile court or adult court.
