Dalia Jimenez, 20, of Grand Prairie, is facing a felony injury to a child charge in connection with the May 11 incident, WFAA reported. She is free on bond, according to court records.
On May 13, police investigated a 911 call about a child who had been burned and taken to the hospital, the television station reported.
"There were burns on both sides of her cheeks, down below her jawline, and small burns on her shoulders as well," Grand Prairie police Det. Greg Parker told KXAS.
The child was treated for first- and second-degree burns and has since been released, the television station reported.
"(Jimenez) said she lit the child on fire to punish her for yelling," officials with the Grand Prairie Police Department said in a statement.
Detectives who interviewed Jimenez said there were inconsistencies in her strory, and after further questioning she confessed to pouring the rubbing alcohol on the child's face before using a lighter, KTVT reported.
“It was about an hour-long conversation, but ultimately at the end of that conversation she did confess to me that she had intentionally burned the 5-year-old for yelling previously in the home,” Parker told the television station.
At a news conference Friday, Parker said the child’s burns were not treated for two days. The girl’s father was not at home during the alleged incident and is not considered a suspect, Parker said.
