Those brought to mind even older stories from Cox Media Group Ohio staffers about their experiences with such rallies and events. Here's a memory from Dayton Daily News reporter Lynn Hulsey about a wardrobe malfunction at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
On the first day I made my way down the dark steps to my work station in the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C. I tripped over a bundle of cables taped to the floor and pitched forward, grabbing the railing to keep myself from going over but ripping off the sole of my shoe.
I used a rubber band to hold the sole to my shoe as I went on the hunt for some tape, asking arena officials, vendors, anyone I could find. I finally obtained a roll of masking tape which I used to bind the sole to the shoe. I walked around like that all night, doing interviews and then walked on rain-soaked sidewalk back to the hotel.
The tape held up. It would've made for a good advertisement for that tape's sturdiness. I took a little extra in case I needed it – and still have that bit of masking tape in my backpack for the next time.
