New businesses are opening along Wilmington Pike, including in the high-traffic area of Interstate 675, which continues to attract a range of development.

The new businesses include Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Valvoline, Eudora Brewing and Game Runners.

Construction is complete on Valvoline, and the oil-change business is up and running at the intersection of Wilmington Pike and East Dorothy Lane. The lot had been vacant for years, and it was purchased by Valvoline earlier this year for $510,000 from seller Micro Kettering LLC, according to city records.

Eudora Brewing Company is moving from its current location at 4716 Wilmington Pike to 3022 Wilmington Pike, just south of East Dorothy Lane. The space previously housed a roofing supplies company and, before that, operated for several years as a Pep Boys auto shop.

The projected cost of that project will reach about $1.4 million, to be financed through a combination of private investors and a Small Business Administration Loan.

Eudora founder Neil Chabut said the new site will be a perfect fit for his brewery and its growth needs. He is hoping for a possible opening this fall.

The Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals (SICSA) is looking to break ground later this year and start construction in 2019 on a $5 million new facility in Washington Twp.

The organization is working with the township board of trustees to open a 27,000 square-foot building, proposed on Washington Church Road, north of Lyons Road and overlooking Interstate 675.

Township Development Director Ryan Lee said the board of trustees has approved the final development plan for the proposed location and SICSA. Township trustees approved the preliminary plans last year.

“We are excited to see this property developed and to welcome SICSA to the Washington Township community,” Lee said.

The Cornerstone development — sparked by the 2014 opening of Costco — has reshaped a significant area of Centerville, bringing with it jobs, retail businesses and restaurants.

Oberer Companies, the developer, had estimated that the entire Cornerstone project would create 2,800 jobs for the region.

Officials with Oberer Companies said in a release that Seattle-based MOD Pizza has signed a lease for a 2,500 square-foot-restaurant. It will be located along Wilmington Pike in the “Shoppes III” retail center at Cornerstone, the retail-residential-commercial development near I-675 and Wilmington Pike.

Oberer also announced that Panda Express, a fast-casual Chinese restaurant concept, will build a free-standing restaurant site. The 2,593 square foot restaurant will be built on just under one acre along Feedwire Road near Costco Warehouse.

The new Home2 Suites by Hilton at Cornerstone is also part of the Phase III development according to Andrew Rodney, city planner and zoning administrator for Centerville.

“The Home2 Suites is in Phase III along with CoreLife eatery and the building with MOD Pizza and First Watch. All that is Phase III,” Rodney said.

A new Popeye’s restaurant also is under construction in front of the Meijer store and is one of many new construction projects underway along the Wilmington Pike corridor.
