Thursday’s rains broke daily rainfall records more than 100 years old at both the Dayton and Cincinnati airports, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The Dayton International Airport reported 1.46 inches of rain on Thursday, breaking the record of 1.22 inches of rain set on Oct. 29 in 1917, 103 years ago.

Cincinnati saw 1.93 inches of rain, breaking the previous record of 1.84 inches set 137 years ago on Oct. 29, 1883.

Heavy rains came as wet air pushed north and east from Hurricane Zeta, interacting with a low-pressure system moving in from the west. Rains were heavier farther south, leading to a flood advisory in Butler and Preble counties Thursday morning.
