Today is final day for downtown Dayton restaurant

DAYTON — Mr. Hyman’s Fine Dining, which opened 10 months ago on the ground floor of the Kettering Tower in downtown Dayton, will close after hosting its final Friday Night Jazz Happy Hour from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. tonight, June 29, according to Leroy Hyman, the restaurant’s owner.

Hyman said he will reopen a restaurant of the same name in early August at 2901 N. Dixie Drive in Harrison Twp., in a building that formerly housed the Dixie Diner.

A lack of parking and inadequate support from the building’s tenants made the Kettering Tower location too expensive to continue to operate, Hyman said.

The downtown Dayton location seated about 200 and employed about 20 people, Hyman said. The new restaurant will seat about 100 and will employ about 15. Hyman will operate his catering business from the North Dixie location, which also will serve as the base for his food-service operations that provide meals to a handful of Dayton-area charter schools.

The Kettering Tower location once housed the fine-dining King Cole restaurant, later Olivia’s, and more recently Michael’s Dining & Jazz, which closed in April 2010.
