These measures will be in place for the foreseeable future, the city said.
Kettering is in the midst of completing a repaving project on the portion of Stroop Road between Shroyer Road and Dorothy Lane. The contractor was instructed by the city to mill the entire asphalt roadway surface at a consistent depth.
In doing so, existing deterioration in the beams of the bridge on Stroop Road was exposed, and in several areas, the milling further compromised the integrity of the bridge, the city said.
The Montgomery County Engineer owns the bridge and determined that temporary safety measures must be put in place until the bridge can be replaced. The county and city are working on a solution to replace the bridge as soon as funding can be secured, the city said.
The Stroop Road multi-million dollar repaving project is part of Kettering's $100 million budget for this year.
Repaving of the six-mile stretch of Stroop Road is expected to be completed by November, the city said late last year. Stroop Road has more than 20,000 cars travel on it each day.
