Two Kettering restaurants close/Starlite Diner will continue to operate Dayton location

KETTERING — The Starlite Diner & Restaurant at 4090 Wilmington Pike closed this week, and a second Kettering restaurant, Cafe Mexico at 1122 E. Dorothy Lane, also has closed.

Mahmut Kilic — whose family operated the Kettering Starlite diner and still operates the Starlite Diner & Restaurant at 2627 S. Smithville Road — said his family closed the Kettering location because of slow business and high costs of rent and utilities. They may explore the possibility of opening a second location in the future, Kilic said.

Kilic said the Smithville Road restaurant, located in the building that previously housed the Nanking Inn, seats 80, while the Kettering restaurant seated about 150. Eight employees were affected by the closing, he said. The Smithville Road Starlite is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Also closed is Cafe Mexico, which opened in August 2012 in the space that previously housed several other restaurants, among them Amore Mia, Casa Amici, Amici’s Place, Millie’s Philly Cheesesteaks, Barbie’s Bistro and La Pergola.
