City council considered holding an event over Labor Day Weekend or holding an event in December. The city determined that they would cancel the event until next year.
“We have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Fireworks show, originally postponed from July 3rd, as a result of the uncertainties associated with COVID-19,” the city said in a Facebook post. “The health and safety of our community is our top priority and was the leading factor in making this decision.”
The Star Spangled Celebration features live music, food vendors and a fireworks show. The event traditionally takes place at the Vandalia Sports Complex on Stonequarry Road and its surrounding neighborhoods.
Fireworks, festivals and other Fourth of July celebrations were canceled throughout the Miami Valley this summer. Dayton, Fairborn, Kettering and Moraine were among the cities that did not put on fireworks events due to the coronavirus restrictions.
