Barney said the company purchased an eight-acre site in the Heritage Business Park in Franklin because the site came with favorable zoning and incentives. According to city records, the $2.38 million, 16,000 square-foot building started building after it received its permit in late December.
“The city’s willingness for us to come there and accommodating our need for outdoor storage of equipment,” Barney said. “That was a concern for other communities.
He said 10 new jobs will be created as a result of the expansion and that they were still interviewing for some positions. Barney, who purchased the business in 2011 from his father, said the Vandalia location is one of the largest single store locations in Ohio.
Barney said the Vandalia location is where its training and heavy repair facility is based and was enlarged in 2013 in anticipation of this expansion. He said it was time to take the company beyond the original four walls in Vandalia from where his dad left off.
“We’ve been looking for ways to best service our customer base with a closer proximity to clients in South Dayton and Northern Cincinnati,” Barney said. “Franklin was picked out of four cities. We were looking for a site with high visibility and access for our customers with a location that had a strong fit for us.”
He said the second location will reduce response time to assist clients and make the fleet of equipment more accessible those in South Dayton and Northern Cincinnati.
“We’re excited about it and I know the team is itching to start,” Barney said.
Franklin City Manager Sonny Lewis said the city “is excited to have Vandalia Rental become part of our community. They are a first class business that does things right and will be a great addition to the Heritage Business Park.”
Lewis said the business park is starting to attract interest from other companies and sometimes this is because they see growth such as Vandalia Rental.
“We are glad they chose Franklin to expand their growing company,” he said.
