People braved a cold and chilly morning to line up for free Thanksgiving meals at University of Dayton Arena Wednesday morning.

The turkey dinner takeaway is through Miami Valley Meals in collaboration with the MVM Coalition. The giveaway lasts until noon at UD Arena, 1801 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd. in Dayton, and Trotwood Madison High School, 4440 N. Union Road in Trotwood.

Miami Valley Meals hopes to distribute about 6,000 meals between the two locations.

The event aims to help residents in the Miami Valley who are struggling.

The meals, which include turkey, vegetables, potatoes, dessert and bread, are first come first served. The giveaway is drive-thru style, with meals being handed out in individual containers or family-size pans. There’s a limit of two family pans per family.
