Walmart Surveillance Shows Celina Tornado

News Center 7 has obtained outdoor surveillance video captured from the Walmart store in Celina as a tornado made its way through a portion of the city late Tuesday night.

It was preceded by high winds, heavy rain and then a sudden power outage.

CELINA: Tornado Caught On Walmart Video

The video shows several heavy trash Dumpsters blowing across the parking lot of the Walmart store. The video also shows a person taking shelter in a construction trailer. Seconds later, he decided that was not a good idea.

The heavy rain and strong winds made visibility poor after the city lost power in the path of the EF-2 tornado.

The tornado developed over Grand Lake St. Marys and then moved toward land. Kenny Whetstone, who lives near the lake, said the tornado lasted only seconds and destroyed his barns.

The tornado started as an EF-1 as it entered Celina with winds speeds of 73 to 112 mph and then left town for the rural areas as an EF-2 tornado with winds of 113 to 157 mph.
