The University of Dayton Arena has hosted more NCAA men’s basketball tournament games than any other venue in the tournament’s history – 113 of them.

Built in 1969 by Danis Construction, the 13,435-seat multi-purpose arena has made its mark in NCAA and presidential history.

The arena has hosted some of the country's biggest crowds: The UD basketball team ranked fifth nationally in attendance the year the arena opened in 1969, and it hasn't ranked lower than 35th nationally in the seasons it has played there.

Not just sports: The Arena has also been used as a concert venue due to its large seating capacity. Elvis played his last Dayton show there in 1976. His first show in Dayton was in 1956 at the University of Dayton Fieldhouse just four months after he released Heartbreak Hotel.

And an even bigger variety: UD Arena is currently the home site of Winter Guard International color guard and indoor percussion championships each spring since 2005.

The Cyprus Bay High Schooll Winter Guard participated in the Schoolastic Open Preliminaries at Winter Guard International on Thursday morning with A Witches Curse. The competition continues this weekend and next at various venues in Dayton, Cincinnati and Oxford. TY GREENLEES / STAFF

Major improvements: UD has made many improvements to the arena. The Donoher Center expansion on the southwest corner of the arena was completed in 1998, resulting in a professional-class facility for basketball conditioning. UD has also surveyed fans for input on further development of the Area.
